High Road Upper School of Washington DC
In February HRUS celebrated Black History. Black History is not just the history of African-Americans, it’s the history of the world. The staff and some students participated in the festivities of the month. Mr. John-Langba, a native of Sierre Leone, continued the tradition he and Mr. Jackson started, by wearing African dashikis everyday for the month of February. Of course no one had more dashikis than Mr. John-Langba.
The BHM Program was a successful celebration filled with Libation and drumming from Mr. Jackson and Daquon Robinson, singing of the Black National Anthem by Ms. Hartwell and a poetry contest written and read by students.
Mr. Hubbard put his stylish techniques together and spearheaded the first BHM fashion show for High Road Upper School, with participation from some High Road Academy students. The month long celebration also included a guest appearance from local dance crew Show Out and ended with a smorgasbord of food for staff and students. Special thanks goes to those students who felt the cultural vibe from day one; Roshell Peak for dancing, Daquon Robinson for drumming and poetry and Eric Villatoro for the graffiti art.
Remember Africa is the birthplace of humanity and also the birthplace of science, math, astrology, art, music and civilization. If it wasn’t for Ancient Africans there wouldn’t be an Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, Ancient China or an Ancient Americas.

What types of things to do like to do?
I love to ride horses, go to the library, watch movies, go shopping and read books. Jewelry like peals and diamonds interest me. I also like learning about Geography and I’m learning to like Math. To relax, I enjoy candles and getting massages.
