Fine Arts Festival
The students of Mr. Flanagan and Mr. Held’s classroom choose to build a scrap metal tree for the Fine Arts Festival held last spring. The students decided to each make a branch of the tree to represent their own interests and hobbies.
The tree was constructed using pieces of steel, coat hangers, a car muffler, miscellaneous metal brackets, assorted pieces and parts from a local junkyard as well as items brought from home by each student. The classmates welded the small branches to the main branches under close staff supervision.
Some of the stand out ornaments on the tree included a bird in a nest, musical notes, a pet cat, a hood ornament and many other interesting items that were meaningful to the teens.
The tree was such a success that two local art galleries borrowed it to display to the public! It became quite a conversational piece and the students and staff received many compliments on the student’s ingenuity and hard work!
